16-20 February
Read Think Pray
Transfiguration Sunday
Monday
Read Psalm 50:1-6
Think
This whole Psalm is worth
reading - the first verses invite us to consider the glory of God. Almighty, surrounded by a fire and a storm.
Pray
Open my mind, my eyes, my ears,
my senses to understand your glory.
Tuesday
Read 2 Kings 2:1-12
Think
Elijah was a powerfully
anointed prophet. The stories of his
miracles and work are recorded in 1 Kings 17-19, 21 and 2 Kings 1-2. Elijah calls the people of Israel to renounce
Baal and worship Yahweh (the God of Israel).
He points Israel to their God.
Pray
Elijah reminds us that you
are God. Purify our worship; help us to
offer our lives to you fully.
Wednesday
Read 2 Corinthians 4:3-6
Think
"The God who said,
"Out of darkness the light shall shine!" is the same God who made his
light shine in our hearts, to bring us the knowledge of God's glory shining in
the face of Christ." (Verse 6)
Pray
Lord help me to understand
that you are perfectly revealed in Jesus Christ.
Thursday
Read Mark 9:2-9
Think
Moses and Elijah are talking
with Jesus. Seeing this sight confirms
that Jesus is who he says he is. Moses
is the first prophet who points Israel so clearly to God; Elijah calls them to
see God clearly. In this conversation it
seems that the two approve Jesus.
Finally - the voice from
heaven confirms:
"This is my Son."
Pray
When I understand that you
are God, and that you love me, I have the power to live out my calling in the
world.
Friday
Read Mark 1:9-15
Think
Jesus was tempted in the
wilderness but he triumphed.
Pray
Lead me not into temptation,
but deliver me from evil.
