Read 2 Timothy 4:6-8 and 16-18
6 As for me, the hour has come for
me to be sacrificed; the time is here for me to leave this life. 7I
have done my best in the race, I have run the full distance, and I have kept
the faith.c 8And now there is waiting for me the victory
prize of being put right with God, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will
give me on that Day—and not only to me, but to all those who wait with love for
him to appear.
16 No one stood by me the first time
I defended myself; all deserted me. May God not count it against them! 17But
the Lord stayed with me and gave me strength, so that I was able to proclaim
the full message for all the Gentiles to hear; and I was rescued from being
sentenced to death. 18And the Lord will rescue me from all evil and
take me safely into his heavenly Kingdom. To him be the glory for ever and
ever! Amen.
Think
Paul anticipates the end of his life - effectively he is passing on the
baton of ministry to young Timothy.
Reflecting on his life he is able to say: "I have done my best in
the race, I have run the full distance, and I have kept the faith." - 2
Timothy 4:7
Pray
Lord sometimes I walk, sometimes I leave the track entirely... sometimes I
fall asleep in the starting blocks. Wake
me up and set me straight for the journey ahead.
